Now that most of us have filed our 2010 tentative rolls but before we get into
the true craziness of grievance, it’s time to remember that July and our Annual
Seminar on Appraising are right around the corner.
We’ve made some changes to the format of our program this year. We know
that many of you are not eligible for reimbursement with the recent
changes to the rules on banking of credits. We understand that budgets
are tight and that time can be even tighter. So we’ve changed – instead
of half-week sessions, we now offer two-day courses (Monday-Tuesday and
Wednesday-Thursday) and instead of full week courses, we’ve moved to
four-day courses for continuing education. The two valuation courses
introduced a few years ago for basic certification (Appraisal Principles
& Procedures and Application of the Three Approaches to Value) and IAO-1
are still full week five day classes because it’s tough to shrink thirty
hours of material into twenty-four.
So the options have changed but what hasn’t changed is the quality of
education you can expect. Cornell Dean Roger Tibbetts and his committee
have put together a top-notch educational program. From the brand new
Commercial/Industrial Appraisal course (which can be used to meet the
elective requirement for basic certification) to the Income Approach to
Valuation of Mobile Homes & Parks. From computer labs focusing on RPS
V-4 Data Extraction or Excel to Article 7 Proceedings or even Ethics -
truly there is something for everyone. And remember, even if you’ve
been around as long as I have, there is always something new to be
learned or skills that can be improved.
We’ve made one other change to the schedule – the annual picnic has
moved to Tuesday evening (to keep it “mid-week”). This year we’ve got a
Las Vegas theme – think of the possibilities! So, block out 2 days, 4
days or the whole week of July 12th and meet me in Ithaca –
we’ll learn something new together!
